The English Crabapple has alternate tooth leaves and is a very popular traditional bonsai due to its flowers and fruit. Our English Crabapple measures only 10" high and bears showy flowers in spring and sets attractive 1/2" bright red fruit in late summer to early fall which remains on the tree through the winter. Well known for the superb colors of its foliage in autumn (fall). The bark is a dappled pale brown and exfoliates with age revealing a grey orange and brown color. The small leaves (which resist scorching during drought) have 3 short lobes close together - hence the name Tri-dent. Flowering crabapples are one of the best flowering trees for bonsai. They produce beautiful +" white, fragrant flowers covering the entire tree in early spring before the foliage appears. The foliage is really small and lobed. Little green pomes (apples) appear in summer, derived from the enlargement of the entire flower receptacle which becomes fleshy. The fruit ripens to all different colors in the fall when the foliage begins to turn to shades of yellow, orange and red. Winter brings a nice twiggy skeletal outline punctuated by the fruit which persists throughout the winter. They are easy to grow and quite pest and disease resistant. Deciduous. Keep outdoors. Redwood Bonsai Tree (metasequoia glyptostroboides) Redwood Bonsai Tree (metasequoia glyptostroboides) -
Really the most exciting of the Redwoods is the Dawn Redwood, a native of Manchuria China. Thought to be extinct, but re-discovered in the 1940's. The Dawn Redwood is a true Redwood. Like our Redwoods they are a living fossil an isolated "relic" species from a long time ago when there were vast forests of them. Seeds were introduced in the U.S. in 1948, and has been increasingly popular as an ornamental tree. The foliage is more lacey than our native Redwood but what is very different about the Dawn Redwood is that it is decideous. In the fall the light green sprays turn yellow, then bronze, and fall off. Only the Larches do that. Keep outdoors

Also known as Copper Beech. A great colorful addition to any bonsai collection. Has leaves that are reddish or purple. The purple color leaves turn to a bronzy green in the summer heat. Native to Japan where it is used extensively for bonsai. Has 2" long x 1" wide foliage that is a little more oval than the European Beech. The foliage turns brown in autumn and remains on the tree until spring when new growth pushes off the old leaves. The smooth grey-white bark is typical of other Beeches. Deciduous. This tiny red macro mini rose is a bloom machine in miniature growing only to 9" tall. It has light green tiny leaves with a compact uniform growth habit. This disease resistant variety produces well shaped blooms up to 1/2" diameter. It has a delicate red color, with soft petals. Their color softens just before petal drop as the tree readies itself for another flush of blooms. It flowers profusely from spring through early fall. Keep outdoors and protect in winter.

Also known as 'Larix Kaempferi'. The very beautiful Larch is an unusual genus, one of the handful of decideous conifers which is very popular among bonsai growers around the world. Unlike many conifers, Larix cones are purplish in color and are quite small and seem in proportion to most sizes of bonsai. The color of the foliage is bright lime green at the start of the season, bright to dark green during the Summer and yellow to bronze in the autumn.

The Bald Cypress grows in many areas of Florida and Louisiana particularly in swampy areas. The Bald Cypress has been degignated the official tree of the state of Louisiana. We grow this winter hardy, vine-like shrub into tree form. Before the foliage appears this flowering beauty bears 1" bright yellow blooms at the base of its stems and slowly blooms up the stems. Native to Japan, the scale-like leaves (needles) are bright green during spring and summer and slightly dull green during fall and winter.
